Ground-breaking act for company owned test centre

2014-05-27 [Press release]

Hilding Anders, Europe’s leading mattress and bed manufacturer, has started to build its own test centre in Schänis, Switzerland. It is called the Good Night’s Sleeplab comprising an investment volume of 1.25 million Euros. The formal opening is expected for Mid-October.

After analyzing global test methods for mattresses, the company decided to develop an own process that is much broader than usual for the industry. “Our consumer research shows that Comfort, Hygiene and Ventilation are the most critical criteria once the consumer selects a bed or mattress. And, as the requirements for the purchase of a mattress or bed not only differ around the world, but also individually, test methods must be tailored much closer to end consumer needs than the industry does it today”, argues Alex Myers, CEO & President for Hilding Anders.

“Hence, as there was no suitable test set-up around measuring in response to these consumer needs, we decided to invest in our own facilities”, Myers continues.

The development of the test standards was conducted in collaboration with the Swiss independent AEH Centre for Occupational Medicine, Ergonomics and Hygiene. The combined teams defined parameters, Ergonomics, Bed Hygiene, Bed climate and Durability for the test procedure. The tests will be conducted inside the Hilding Anders premises in Schänis, and audited and certified by AEH as independent third party.

“With our instrument, we will be able to indicate a much stronger answer to consumer preferences than it is known on the market globally. Quality beds and mattresses fulfill similar criteria, our test certificate will clearly indicate a profile of the product towards ergonomics, ventilation or freshness. We will be able to offer an important orientation aid during the buying process, both for the retailer but also for the end consumer”, adds Daniel Oelker, Senior Vice President Communication.

“Our firm belief is that there cannot be a best bed or mattress that is suited perfectly to all needs, but there is a bed or mattress tuned to the the respective preferences of each customer. We are pleased to take a great step into the future with this investment and demonstrate our capabilities as European leader,” Alex Myers concludes.
